I’ve had these half chaps forever. They were my dad’s but he gave them to me when I started riding more than him. This should also give you an idea about my leg size. These half chaps fit the both of us, however, I probably could have benefited from a shorter length. (But free is free). I was probably about 15 years old at the time I got my half chaps from him. He had used them for about a year. I wore these half chaps a few times a week up through my first year of college, about 4 years of continuous use. Then they got tucked away in a closet.
They have been back in use for the past 2 years. Now 12 years old with about 7 years of good use on them, and they still look fantastic.
They are described as:
Features:
Premium suede
Moisture-wicking lining
Elastic gore, back side panel
Full-length zipper
Contoured skirt over instep
These half chaps are very comfortable. I'm not particularly fond of the suede finish. It makes them difficult to clean despite being listed as "washable". They Breeze is also available in an "oiled black" finish that I think would provide more of the tall boot feeling and be easier to clean. They are available in a few different calf sizes as well as leg heights (Regular/Short/Tall). The sizing chart on Ariat's website is fairly accurate. The ones I have are Regular length/Large calf. They fit me in the calves, but next time I think I'll go for the Short.
They zip from the top down, which I like. The zipper is plastic but I haven't had any issues with it up to this point. They are fairly easy to get on. I have a hard time getting the buckle down by my ankle to snap and hold the zipper in place, but this may be due to the fact that these half chaps are a touch long on me. Regardless, even without the button in place, the zipper stays, and the half chaps remain in the proper position.
From a comfort and durability stand point, these half chaps are fantastic. They are very comfortable to ride in. They provide close contact with the horse and flex with the leg well.

"Exceptionally soft, these unisex chaps work with the Breeze paddock boots to create a protective system with the authority of a tall boot, yet the ease and comfort of half chaps. The supple leather is washable so it can always look its best. An elastic gore provides a glove-like fit."
